One Person Can Make a Difference

The story of the Food Bank is the story of how one person can make a tremendous difference. 45 years ago, a man named Tony Collier noticed the co-occurring issues of hunger and food waste and decided to do something about it. What began as one man’s mission to help others is now a community-driven effort that feeds more than 300,000 people on a monthly basis.

In 2017, more than 30,000 volunteers and nearly 20,000 individual donors gave generously to provide hope for our neighbors in need. Thanks to people like you, the Food Bank was able to distribute a new record of more than 56 million meals last year. Read more about the Food Bank here.

Maximum Fun Makes Maximum Impact in Our Community!

Maximum Fun is your home on the internet for things that are awesome, including a recent campaign to help those in need in our community. Through the overwhelming support of Maximum Fun's supporters, Maximum Fun was able to present a check for $100,365 to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank that will supply more than 400,000 meals for children, seniors, families and individuals. Feeding Seniors in Los Angeles:
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is a federally funded food assistance program that provides monthly food kits for low-income seniors ages 60 and older. Each kit weighs approximately 30 pounds and contains mostly shelf-stable staples items such as beans, grains, tuna and canned fruits and vegetables.

The Food Bank coordinates all aspects of the program, including acquiring the food and distributing the kits. In fact, all of the kits that we distribute are packed by our dedicated volunteers. In 2017, the Food Bank was able to serve an average of 27,000 seniors each month through this program, improving the health of seniors who are struggling to make ends meet.
